Amber (or, technically,
fossil resin) is fossilized tree resin, which has been appreciated for its color and natural beauty since Neolithic times. Good quality amber is used for the manufacture of ornamental objects and jewelry. There are five classes of amber, defined on the basis of their chemical constituents.
Because it originates as a soft, sticky tree resin, amber sometimes includes animal and plant material as inclusions.
APPEARANCE
Amber occurs in range of colors.
Baltic Amber is the best material for the jewelry. It have various range of yellow tone, from butterscotch vivid yellow to the transparent golden yellow. Red, orange and brown varieties also occurs. Pure opaque white and the pure solid blue were being found. It is extremely rare and most of the pieces occurs with the ugly botanical inclusion. If the blue Baltic amber were pure clean blue so it will look like gem-quality turquoise.
Other amber or fossil resin shows more exotic colors, such as cognac, red, black, brown, or even mixed with other colors. Some amber strongly fluoresces blue or green under the natural sunlight, the most vivid blue found only on Dominican amber and green on the Chiapas amber. Cantabrian amber, Burmite, some Rumanite, Australian (Cape York) amber etc were also exhibit strong blue fluorescent. A few of Borneo Amber, Arkansas Amber and Indonesian Amber were also fluoresce green but not always.

Much of the most highly-prized amber is transparent, in contrast to the very common cloudy amber and opaque amber. Opaque amber contains numerous minute bubbles. This kind of amber is known as "bony amber".
